Sweet Daddy D started the website, First…you have a beer, in 2017 to explore the unique culture and heritage of New Orleans and South Louisiana. This rich heritage is forged from the cultures of many nations and ethnicities. The first thing that comes to mind when mentioning South Louisiana is the food, a unique and wonderful blending of diverse cuisines into a unique array of tastes immediately recognized as Cajun and Creole. Central to these two similar yet different cuisines is the use of special herbs and spices which spotlight the savory and sassy nature of the Louisiana people. Sweet Daddy D utilizes a number of Herb and Spice Blends to help connect these cultural and historic cuisines to our kitchens.
Le Bon Papa Seasonings
Sweet Daddy D has finally started to bring his proprietary Herb and Spice Blends to the market through Le Bon Papa Seasonings. This website, lebonpapaseasonings.com, is the eCommerce portal for you to purchase original, proprietary blends of herbs and spices made from our recipes.
Who or What is Le Bon Papa?
The unique culture of South Louisiana began to evolve when immigrant populations that arrived during the 1700s to the 1900s joined the Native populations. During this time, two distinct groups of people came in search of economic, political, and religious opportunities. One group of European, African, Caribbean, and Indigenous people settled in and around the New Orleans area and shaped Creole culture. The other group was French descendants exiled from an area called Acadia in Nova Scotia. These immigrants settled in the area west and upriver of New Orleans. This area would become known as Acadiana. In time, this group would become known as Acadians, and later, Cajuns.
During this time, immigrants arrived through the Port of New Orleans and surrounding coastal areas on many ships from all over the world. The first ship of Acadian exiles arrived from France in 1785 with 36 families. The name of this frigate was Le Bon Papa. We have chosen this name to represent our seasoning brand in hopes that it pays homage to these brave souls who developed the most unique cultures in the world.

Our mission is to explore and share the unique culture of Southern Louisiana through seasonings and spices which highlight and accentuate Cajun and Creole flavors. When combined with ingredients common to South Louisiana, it is our hope that your and our recipes will be transformed into delicious dishes which remind many of us of family traditions. Our intention is to invite and introduce people from all over the world to these unique and renowned cuisines. The tremendous flavors achieved with Sweet Daddy D’s recipes belie their simplicity. These “no-angst” recipes start with the preparation of not only the ingredients but also of the cook. When combined with some Le Bon Papa seasonings, these simple ingredients and simple methods produce almost fool-proof family tradition-type meals.
In line with our mission at First…you have a beer, the development of special herbs and spice blends will help all of us discover more about the unique tiles that form the mosaic of South Louisiana culture. It is our goal to introduce more seasonings that will help us accomplish this mission.
